Florida Legislature Votes to End Disney’s Special Status
Yesterday, the Florida legislature gave final passage to a pair of bills aimed at Disney. One of the bills will eliminate the unique status that allows Disney to operate as an independent government around it’s Orlando area theme parks. The other will eliminate a Disney carve-out in a social media bill that was signed into law last year but was put on hold by a federal judge. Both the bills passed with a 70-38 vote which happened without any final debate and came as several black Democratic members were staging a protest over the congressional redistricting map. The Disney bills passed the Senate on Wednesday and will now head to Governor Ron DeSantis’ desk for signatures.
