It’s Not You – The Science Behind Monstrous Mother-in-Laws
Basically, researchers found we all unconsciously want to protect our core family members and that sometimes causes conflict.
A recent study found it’s not your fault if your mother-in-law hates you. Researchers found men and women both tend to have more conflict with their mother-in-law than they do with their own mom. They think it has to do with something called “genetic conflict,” especially when kids are involved. Basically, we all unconsciously want to protect our core family members and when you’ve got children, your in-laws are genetically tied to them too, so you’re more likely to clash because of it. They found that spending habits are a big pressure point too. Women clash with their mother-in-law a little more than men. They say the average father-in-law clashes with their son-in-law less than they do with their own daughter.
