Russian Warship Damaged in Black Sea, President Biden Pledges More Assistance for Ukraine

The war in Ukraine continues… One of Russia’s most important Navy warships has been damaged in the Black Sea. Sailors had to evacuate the ship after a fire detonated ammunition aboard. Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said ‘there was an explosion’ on the Moskva but also said that the United States cannot say if the ship was hit by a missile.

President Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the US was sending an additional $800 million worth of weapons, ammo and other security assistance. Biden announced the news to Zelenskyy during an hour long phone conversation. According to the Pentagon, the US is providing Ukraine with 11 Mi-17 helicopters, 300 switchblade drones, 18 Howitzers and protective equipment to guard against chemical attacks in the latest part of security assistance approved by the White House. In addition to the weapons package, also included are 30,000 sets of body armor and helmets.
