New York Attorney General Asks for Former President Trump to be Held in Criminal Contempt

New York’s Attorney General wants former President Donald Trump held in contempt of court and fined $10,000 a day. That’s until he complies with an order to turn over documents Letitia James wants for her civil tax fraud investigation into his company’s financial practices. The AG’s office has previously said it found multiple misleading or fraudulent misstatements and omissions in the Trump Organization’s financial statements. A number of documents were requested back in February, then the deadline was extended to the end of March but, instead of turning them over, Trump presented 16 objections to the subpoena’s demands. Yesterday, the Attorney General said the objections came too late and she’s asking the court to hold him accountable. James is asking the court to impose a fine of $10,000 per day as well as compensation for the Attorney General’s office costs and fees in filing the motion.
