Horry County Police Department Working to Form New Unit

The Horry County Police Department is working to form a new unit and has applied for a grant to help pay for it. HCPD is forming a crime intelligence unit and hoping to use funding from the ‘project safe neighborhoods’ grant to help cover the cost. The department could receive more than $313,000 if the grant is approved. According to Deputy Chief of Operations, Kenneth Davis, it will allow the department to ‘ask for equipment or individuals in certain aspects that help us serve our community a little more efficiently. The department recently hired it’s first crime analyst but hope to hire two criminal intelligence detectives with the grant as well. Whether or not they’ll receive the grant won’t be announced until later this year.
