Ukraine President Zelenskyy Meets With United Nations Security Council

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the United Nations Security Council as Russian attacks on citizens continue. Zelenskyy stressed accountability for Russia ‘must be inevitable’ and said he wants full and transparent investigations against the country. Yesterday, Zelenskyy said that at least 300 people had been killed and tortured in Bucha before troops pulled out of the town.

Here in the states, President Biden said the images coming from Bucha warranted calling Putin a ‘war criminal’ and also called for a trial to take place against him. Biden did not label the killings a ‘genocide’ but said that he was looking into additional sanctions against Russia. The White House declined to go into specifics on how Biden’s call for a war crimes trial for Putin would move forward but Jake Sullivan said the U.S. would have to “consult with our allies and partners on what makes most sense as a mechanism.”
