United States Passports to Include Gender ‘X’ Beginning in April

Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced yesterday that U.S. citizens will now have the option to select ‘X’ when identifying their gender on their passport application… The announcement came on International Transgender Day of Visibility and as the Biden administration continues their effort to implement gender-inclusive policies. Blinken said “Beginning April 11th, citizens will be able to choose ‘X’ when it comes to the gender marker on their passport application, and the option will become available for other forms of documentation next year.” The administration is also expected to partner with airlines, the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security to add ‘X’ gender markers to their systems as well. The U.S. joins Canada, Australia, New Zealand and other countries with similar inclusive passport policies.
