Refugees Continue to Flee as Negotiations Between Ukraine, Russia Continue

The war in Ukraine as well as evacuations continue. 2,000 civilians who left from Mariupol are on buses to the Ukrainian-held city of Zaporizhzhia. A Ukrainian official said some evacuation buses have been held at a Russian checkpoint and 14 tons of humanitarian aid bound for the city were confiscated by Russian troops. Attempts are also being made to open further evacuation corridors today with more than 100,000 people trapped in the city. Nearly 300,000 refugees who fled the Ukraine have arrived in Germany and as of today, 294,508 people had been registered by German police. Negotiations between Ukraine and Russia are set to resume today, but the chief of staff to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, says he has a “very small portion of optimism” after seeing little change come from the talks earlier this week in Istanbul.
