Border Patrol Prepares for Possible End of Title 42 at U.S. Mexico Border
Border patrol agents are gearing up as the Biden administration is planning to end Trump-era pandemic restrictions at the U.S. Mexico border by May 23rd. The CDC is finalizing it’s assessment of the public health authority known as ‘Title 42’ and is expected to announce a decision this week whether or not to repeal, modify or extend it. Former President Trump put the authority in place at the onset of the pandemic. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, there have been 1.7 million migrants sent back to Mexico or their origin country since March 2020. If the order is lifted Homeland Security Department officials are preparing for a worst-case scenario of up to 18,000 people trying to cross the border daily.
