Omicron Subvariant ‘BA.2’ is Dominant Strain in the U.S.

The highly contagious subvariant of the Omicron known as BA.2 is currently the dominant Coronavirus strain in the United States and is responsible for more than half of all infections last week according to the CDC. Based on data from the agency, BA.2 caused between 51% and 59% of all new Covid-19 infections in the U.S. the week ending on March 26th which is up from 39% the week before. The hardest hit region was the Northeast where BA.2 caused more than 70% of all cases. The South and Mountain West saw the fewest cases. according to the World Health Organization, BA.2 is also the dominant strain of the virus globally.
