Biden Administration Implementing New Asylum Rule

Statistics show about one point seven million cases are pending in immigration court.

An overhaul on the U.S. asylum system is in the works. The Biden Administration has been working on regulations that would settle claims more quickly and help with the massive backlog in immigrations courts. The plan is to let asylum officers decide what should happen instead of having to wait on an immigration judge. Right now, stats from Syracuse University show about one point seven million cases are pending in immigration court. Officials say they’ll need to bolster staff to make this work so things will start small but, they’ll likely get started this summer.
