Lawsuit Against Pawleys Island Church/Academy Dismissed By Judge
The complaint reported that officials with the church and school were aware of Perry's status but failed to inform parents.
A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Pawleys Island Community Church, it’s Christian Academy, and several other defendants.
The lawsuit was filed on Aug. 4 and alleged that the church and school allowed registered sex offender Warren Perry to volunteer. He worked in a custodial maintenance position that gave him access to children attending the academy.
The complaint reported that officials with the church and school were aware of Perry’s status but failed to inform parents that he was working on the campus. The lawsuit was brought on by parents on behalf of themselves, their minor child and other families whose children attended the academy during Perry’s presence.
The plaintiffs accused the defendants of negligence, negligent hiring and supervision, and more. The judge determined the lawsuit had not met the legal requirements to proceed in federal court. The ruling did not address whether the allegations were true.
