Hunter Biden Pleads Not Guilty To Federal Tax Charges
The charges stem from what prosecutors say was a four-year scheme to avoid paying the $1.4 million he owed to the IRS.
Hunter Biden pleaded not guilty to federal tax charges Thursday.
The president’s son faces nine felony and misdemeanor tax offenses. The charges stem from what prosecutors say was a four-year scheme to avoid paying the $1.4 million he owed to the IRS and instead used the money to fund an extravagant lifestyle that included drug and alcohol abuse.
Biden has also separately been charged with lying on a federal form for gun purchases swearing he was not using or addicted to illegal drugs.
The tax accusations come from an investigation into his tax and business dealings and were intended to be used in a plea deal, in which he would have gotten two years’ probation for the gun charges after pleading guilty to misdemeanor tax charges. He also would have avoided prosecution on the gun charge if he stayed out of trouble.
However, the deal collapsed after a judge started to question the legality of it.
Biden has now pleaded not guilty to both of the separate charges.
