Former NYPD Officer Sentenced to 10 Years for Jan. 6 Assault

This is the longest sentence given to any capitol riot participant to date.

A federal judge sentenced former New York police officer Thomas Webster to ten years in prison yesterday for an assault that took place on January 6th.
This is the longest sentence given to any capitol riot participant to date. A jury had previously convicted 56-year-old Webster for crossing police barriers at the capitol and choking a DC police officer with his own chin strap. It was all captured on video and Webster, who was wearing his police body armor at the time, claimed self-defense. But, then changed his tune at sentencing, requesting mercy from the judge and apologizing to the officer he assaulted.
