New York, New Jersey Declare States of Emergencies Ahead of Nor’easter

A nor’easter is making its way through New Jersey and New York. Yesterday, New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency for more than 20 counties in the state saying “I am encouraging New Yorkers to prepare now for inclement weather expected over the coming days and urging commuters to take precaution ahead of heavy rainfall expected tomorrow morning.” Hochul directed various state agencies to prepare their assets for deployment to impacted regions.

In New Jersey, their state of emergency began at 8 pm according to Governor Phil Murphy. He said “severe weather conditions will impact the state starting tonight through the next several days.” The National Weather Service issued severe flash flood watches in the northeast beginning last night and lasting through this afternoon which could impact around 30 million people. Heavy rains are expected which could lead to flash flooding of creeks, steams, urban as well as poor drainage areas.
