Man Faces New Charge After Human Remains Found In Trash Can

Douglas faced a judge Wednesday and was handed a $250,000 bond in addition to GPS monitoring.

A new charge has been filed against the man arrested in connection to a homicide investigation out of Marlboro County.

On April 23, human remains were discovered in a trash can at the Evergreen Court Apartments in Bennettsville.

An investigation led to the arrest of Luke Douglas Jr.. He admitted to concealing the victim’s remains by placing the body in a storage area within the apartment where he resided, before disposing of the decomposing remains in the trash.

Douglas has been charged with desecration of human remains and the new charge involves destruction of evidence.

The coroner has not released the identity of the victim as the investigation remains underway. However, Douglas reportedly knew the victim.

The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office is involved due to the belief that the remains could belong to a woman who was reported missing in the county since April of 2024.
