House of Representatives Passes Budget Plan

Yesterday was a big day for lawmakers in Washington as members of the House of Representatives reconvened after their summer recess. The House voted to advance both a $3.5 trillion budget deal and a separate $1 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill. The $3.5 budget plan paves the way for Democrats to pass legislation expanding the social safety net. The House voted on a procedural maneuver to advanced both the bill and the resolution.

With the budget resolution, Democrats plan to invest in infrastructure and jobs, families, climate and health care as well as include funding for things like Pre-K, affordable housing and dental, vision and hearing benefits. The Senate approved the budget resolution earlier this month but it won’t become a law and will not be signed by President Biden but will act as an important policy blueprint. Both chambers will now have to adopt the resolution for Democrats to be able to use budget reconciliation to later pass legislation.
