United States to ship 2 million doses of Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to Peru today
According to a White House official, the U.S. will begin shipping it’s first doses of Pfizer’s Coronavirus vaccine abroad today. The first 2 million vaccines will be shipped to Peru as part of Biden’s initial commitment to share 80 million doses of the United States’ vaccine supply with other countries around the world. After that initial announcement, Biden reached a deal with Pfizer to purchase and share an additional 500 million doses over the course of the next two years. The doses are expected to arrive in Peru this week and be shared directly from the U.S. on a bilateral basis.
Today, the U.S. will also ship 2.5 million Moderna doses to Pakistan through COVAX. President Biden vowed to allocate 80 million doses of the U.S. vaccine supply to other countries by the end of the month with 75% flowing through COVAX. It is unknown how many doses theU.S. has donated to date but the administration is “currently working through the final stages of clearing all domestic regulatory, legal, and operational hurdles to share every single drop of the 80 million doses we have promised.”
