Daily Covid-19 Vaccine Numbers Drop, E.U. Reaches Agreement With Pfizer
The daily vaccine rate has dropped in the U.S. as over half of American adults have received as least one dose of the vaccine. According to data from the CDC, the seven day average of daily shots administered fell to 2.7 million on Monday, the lowest level since March. The number of cases reported daily are also declining with new infections dropping below 60,000 on Friday for the first time since March 25th. 40% of Americans have received at least one dose of the vaccine and 30% of the population is fully vaccinated. 82% of individuals 65 and older are at least partially vaccinated and two thirds have received both doses.
In other vaccination news, the European Union’s lawsuit against AstraZeneca began yesterday in Brussels. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced an agreement to buy more than 1.8 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The agreement doesn’t have an official contract yet but it will be the world’s biggest single deal for Covid-19 vaccines to date. The vaccines would be delivered through 2023.
