Kenosha Protesters File Civil Rights Lawsuit Over “Unconstitutional” Arrests

Kenosha protesters arrested for breaking curfew have now filed a civil rights lawsuit against the city. The federal suit accuses the city and county’s police departments of selectively enforcing curfew when violent protests broke out a few weeks ago over the shooting of Jacob Blake. The four plaintiffs believe demonstrators against police brutality were specifically targeted while all pro-law enforcement or militia groups were allowed to roam the streets freely. They further claim their constitutional rights, such as their first amendment rights to peacefully assemble, were violated upon their detention. They have presented evidence in their case in the form of a video taken during one night of the protests. The plaintiffs have requested temporary restraining orders against the city and county. They’re demanding monetary damages and for the curfew to be ruled unconstitutional. A lawyer for the prosecution said the lawsuit is “entirely without merit.” Amid the controversy, former Vice President Joe Biden and his wife are set to visit the city today.
