Trump Renews Push For New Mexico Name Change

“New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America,” Trump said.

President Trump took to social media this week to renew his push for New Mexico to change its name to “New America.”

“New Mexico should immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America,” Trump said. He continued to claim that “home values and incomes would rise” because of a name change.

Trump previously suggested renaming New Mexico in September. The state’s governor pushed back then saying the move “isn’t up for debate, it’s been ours since before the United States existed.”

Separately, Trump signed an executive order in August to change the name of Lake Ontario to “Lake America” as part of his ongoing trade war with Canada. He took similar action last year to rename the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America.”
