The city of Myrtle Beach has revealed its annual Memorial Day weekend safety plan.
City Manager Jonathan ‘Fox’ Simons signed an executive order that has been signed over the last decade aiming to keep the city safe during one of its busiest weekends.
The order authorizes the police department to prohibit all golf carts, except those used by law enforcement, south of 29th Avenue North along Ocean Boulevard. That will take effect at midnight on Friday.
The order also designates the weekend as an extraordinary event, giving the police chief authority to take additional public safety actions if necessary, including requesting extra help.
In addition, those 17 or younger will not be allowed in a designated zone without a guardian from 9pm-6am. That rule also applies to all city-owned property, such as parks and beach accesses around the city.
The zone includes much of Ocean Boulevard and downtown Myrtle Beach. It applies specifically from the Atlantic Ocean to Kings Highway between 13th Avenue South and 21st Avenue North.
Traffic changes will be enforced and public works crews and officials will be out around the clock.
