1 Dead, 2 Hurt After Gunman Opens Fire At Old Dominion University
The suspect was identified as a former Army National Guard member that spent eight years in prison
A gunman opened fire at Virginia’s Old Dominion University Thursday.
The suspect was identified as Mohamed Jalloh who was a former Army National Guard member that spent eight years in prison for attempting to aid the Islamic State. He reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” before opening fire on a classroom, which left one person dead and two wounded.
Jalloh was taken out by ROTC students who subdued and killed him. Details of how he died were not revealed but it was said he was not shot.
Jalloh aspired to conduct a terrorist attack in 2009. He later pleaded guilty to attempting to aid the Islamic State and was sentenced to 11 years. He was on supervised release when he carried out Thursday’s attack.
It was said Jalloh was taken down less than 10 minutes after police were called. A special agent in charge of the FBI’s Norfolk field office said the ROTC students showed “extreme bravery and courage” and prevented further loss of life by stopping the gunman.
