Legendary Football Coach Lou Holtz Dies Age 89

Legendary college football coach Lou Holtz has died at the age of 89.

The Hall of Famer was also a bestselling author and one of America’s most influential motivational voices.

Over a five-decade career, he led college programs at William and Mary, N.C. State, Arkansas, Minnesota, Notre Dame, and South Carolina. He also coached for the New York Jets.

Holtz was a national championship winner at Notre Dame, where he had a career record of 110-20-2 over his 11 seasons with the team.

Holtz was also the first coach in NCAA history to lead six different football programs to bowl games. He finished his coaching career with a 249-132-7 record in 388 games.

Holtz was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
