SC House Passes Bill Requiring Ten Commandments In Public Schools

The display would have a statement that details the history of the Ten Commandments.

The South Carolina House of Representatives passed a bill that requires public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments.

The House approved the bill in a 84-31 vote which comes after the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals lifted a block on a similar Louisiana law that a lower court initially placed on the law in 2024.

The display would have a statement that details the history of the Ten Commandments. Schools will also be able to implement volunteer school chaplains if the bill is finalized.

The law would also require the 11-by-13-inch poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments to be displayed in colleges. Schools would also be allowed but not required to display the Mayflower Compact, Declaration of Independence and Emancipation Proclamation.

The Palmetto State bill is now heading to the Senate for a vote.
