UN Security Council Approves U.S.-Backed Gaza Plan
The drafted resolution includes the establishment of a so-called 'Board of Peace' as transitional authority.
The UN Security Council approved a U.S.-backed plan that aims to implement more sustainable peace in Gaza.
The drafted resolution includes the establishment of a so-called ‘Board of Peace’ as transitional authority.
The board will oversee the disarmament of Hamas and other actions, a key Israeli demand, and the reconstruction of Gaza.
The plan also calls for the stabilization of troops to secure Gaza border areas, along with a Palestinian police force that will allow humanitarian assistance. Israeli forces will also withdraw from Gaza along with a slew of other actions listed in the plan.
The resolution also contains a reference to Palestinian statehood, but does not provide a timeline. Hamas has rejected the blueprint.
