10-Foot Long Albino Python Captured In Market Common Area

A 10-foot long albino python was captured in the Market Common area.

On Monday night, a driver spotted the reptile along the side of the road. James Sargent, with the local wildlife and reptile removal service known as The Snake Chaser, responded to the scene to safely capture the loose snake.

This type of snake is not native to South Carolina so Sargent believes it was a pet that either escaped or was intentionally released. It is illegal in S.C. to intentionally release this type of animal from captivity.

The Snake Chaser has worked in wildlife and reptile removal for 16 years and said the python is the biggest snake he’s ever captured. He had to call for backup and the snake became defensive when handlers attempted to pick it up. It is currently at Sargent’s home, where he will care for it while waiting for its owner to come forward.
