Federal Judge Reverses Harvard Funding Freeze

The judge said that the country must fight anti-Semitism, but it also must protect the right to free speech.

A federal judge has ruled that the Trump administration unlawfully blocked funding from Harvard University.

The ruling orders the administration to reverse its cut of more than $2.6 billion in research funding for the Ivy League school.

The judge backed his decision after finding that the freeze in funding was illegal retaliation for Harvard’s rejection of the administration’s demands. The administration previously ordered for changes to the school’s governance and policies in regards to anti-Semitism and discrimination. The school declined.

The judge said that the country must fight anti-Semitism, but it also must protect the right to free speech. The restoration of federal money is expected to revive Harvard’s research operation and hundreds of projects that were cut.
