Hospitals Across The U.S. Are Rationing IV Fluid Amid Low Supply
The Baxter International's North Cove is one of the largest manufacturers of IV fluids and dialysis solutions in the country.
Hospitals across the U.S. are experiencing a shortage of IV fluid.
The shortage is a result of Hurricane Helene’s destruction.
The Baxter International’s North Cove site is located in Marion, North Carolina. It is one of the largest manufacturers of IV fluids and dialysis solutions in the country.
The site was significantly damaged by the rain and storm surge from Helene. The damage forced it to temporarily shut-down.
After a brief pause, Baxter resumed distribution of supplies, but that came with heavy restrictions on the amount that could be ordered.
The situation has forced hospitals to ration critical fluids which has postponed surgeries as the national supply chain remains significantly low.
