Fatal Listeria Outbreak Across Several States Is Linked To Deli Meat

No recalls have been made at this time due to not knowing which meat is to blame.

The CDC issued a warning regarding a fatal listeria outbreak across several states connected to deli meat.

Two people have died and at least 28 others have been hospitalized. Out of 18 people interviewed, 16 reported eating meats sliced at a deli in the month before they got sick. There are no reports of people getting sick after eating packaged deli meat.

No recalls have been made at this time due to not knowing which meat is to blame. However, most people who were sick reported eating turkey, ham or liverwurst.

The outbreak has impacted people across multiple states including North Carolina. A thorough investigation is underway to reveal the source.

People who are pregnant or 65 and older, and those with weakened immune systems are advised to avoid eating deli meat unless it’s been heated.
