Joe Manchin Won’t Support Climate, Tax Provisions for Democratic Economic Package

Manchin and Chuck Schumer have been negotiating on the package for months.

Senator Joe Manchin will not support climate or tax provisions in a democratic economic package. That’s the message the West Virginia democrat sent yesterday to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer after the two had been negotiating on the package for months. Manchin’s refusal comes despite a number of concessions Schumer made to pair back the climate provisions. One source said Manchin is open to lower prescription drugs prices and a two-year extension of affordable care act subsidies. However, that’s all democrats are likely to get in the package, which will need all senate democrats on board in order to pass.
