SCOTUS Gives Biden Approval to End ‘Remain in Mexico’ Immigration Policy
Yesterday was a big day for the Supreme Court, from swearing in Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson to making a few major decisions ahead of the holiday weekend. The Supreme Court gave President Biden the green light to end the controversial ‘Remain in Mexico’ immigration policy that first originated under the Trump administration. The policy sends certain non-Mexican citizens who entered the U.S. back to Mexico instead of detaining them or releasing them into the United States while their immigration proceedings play out. The vote of 5 to 4 states that immigration law gives the federal government the discretion to end the program and the case will go back to the lower courts for additional proceedings.
