Number of Migrants at U.S./Mexico Border Remains High After Warning According to Alejandro Mayorkas
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas acknowledged yesterday that the agency has not ‘seen a significant decrease’ in migrants coming to the U.S./Mexico border despite efforts to restrict the flow. According to Mayorkas, the department saw a 7 day average of over 7,500 people. In April, U.S. Border Patrol stopped migrants 201,800 times which is a 4% drop from the month before. Mayorkas also said the agency was working with Mexico to prepare for a potential surge of migrants at the southern border if a Trump-era pandemic restriction is lifted this month.
