McDonald’s announced plans to invest around $8.5 billion to modernize its restaurants.
The funds will also be used to expand technology and improve operations as the fast-food giant seeks new ways to attract customers and grow sales.
McDonald’s said the support will come through rent relief and other capital support to help franchisees upgrade restaurants. The project is expected to unfold through 2036.
McDonald’s operates over 46,000 locations globally. As part of the plan, it’s will update restaurant layouts and kitchen operations and expand the use of artificial intelligence.
Planned changes also include larger play areas, lockers for delivery orders and visible coffee preparation areas and more.
