Grand Strand Beach Renourishment Project Officially Finished

The coastal storm risk management project placed over 1.5 million cubic yards of sand across 28 miles of coastline to widen shorelines.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has officially completed the Grand Strand beach renourishment project.

The agency completed the coastal storm risk management project which placed over 1.5 million cubic yards of sand across 28 miles of coastline to widen shorelines and reinforce the area’s defenses.

In North Myrtle Beach, nearly 675,000 cubic yards were placed across 8.29 miles. In Myrtle Beach, 275,000 cubic yards were placed across 11.94 miles. And in Surfside Beach and Garden city, over 600,000 cubic yards were placed along 7.7 miles. All sections that underwent the renourishment are now open to the public.
