Myrtle Beach Authorities Warn Of Dangerous Wildlife On Shores

A sting from one of these creatures is not only dangerous and painful, but can sometimes be deadly.

Myrtle Beach authorities are warning beach-goers of venomous wildlife that have been washing up along shores.

Strong currents are causing Portuguese Man O’ War to wash up. City police posted a picture to the department’s Facebook page.

“These organisms can still sting on land and should be disposed of by first responders if observed,” the post said.

Many people commented on the post saying they had been stung. A sting from one of these creatures is not only dangerous and painful, but can sometimes be deadly, especially for pets.

Police say that if anyone is stung, the tentacles should be removed as quickly as possible. They should then add vinegar to the affected areas to deactivate the stinging cells.

You should also continue to monitor the spots where they were attached and seek assistance from life guards, ocean rescue, or medical personnel if needed.
