John Ternus To Take Over As Apple CEO
John Ternus will take over as CEO, leading the company into its next phase of innovation.
Apple’s CEO is stepping down and the senior vice president of hardware engineering is set to take over.
Current CEO Tim Cook announced his resignation from the position Monday. Instead, he will transition to executive chairman of the company’s board of directors.
Apple said the transition followed a “thoughtful, long-term succession planning process” and was unanimously approved by the board of directors.
Starting in September, John Ternus will take over as CEO, leading the company into its next phase of innovation. He will also join the board of directors upon assuming the role.
Ternus joined Apple’s product design team in 2001 and became vice president of hardware engineering in 2013. Eight years later, Ternus joined the executive team as senior vice president of hardware engineering, where he has overseen work on many of the company’s products across iPhone, Mac, iPad, Airpods and Apple Watch.
