Back-To-Back Champion, John Korir, Sets Boston Marathon Record
John Korir ran the race in 2-hours, 1-minute, 52-seconds.
The Boston Marathon was held Monday with a reigning champion breaking a record.
John Korir was the fastest to finish the race in the event’s 130-year history. He ran the race in 2-hours, 1-minute, 52-seconds. That was 70 seconds faster than Geoffrey Mutai’s world-best in 2011. It was also the fifth-fastest marathon of all time. Korir, the 29-year-old Kenyan, won the men’s race as a back-to-back champion.
In addition, 32-year-old Sharon Lokedi also became a reigning champion in the women’s race, finishing in 2-hours, 18-minutes, and 52-seconds. That comes a year after the Kenyan woman shattered the course record by more than 2 1/2-minutes.
