Uvalde School Police Chief Pedro ‘Pete’ Arredondo Suspended

Uvalde School Police Chief Pete Arredondo was suspended yesterday. Arredondo and other law enforcement agencies have faced criticism over the length of time they were stationed in a hallway outside adjoining classrooms at Robb Elementary where the 18 year old gunman and victims were located. The gunman fired multiple rounds at responding officers in the first minutes of the shooting according to a timeline released by the Texas Department of Public Safety but over 70 minutes elapsed before the gunman was shot and killed by authorities. Earlier this month, Arredondo said he didn’t consider himself the incident commander and didn’t instruct officers to refrain from breaching the scene. The council also unanimously voted to deny Arredondo a leave of absence from future council meetings and he could be removed from office if he fails to attend three consecutive city council meetings un-excused.
