Additional Security in Place at Supreme Court Building
Law enforcement officials in D.C. are preparing for security risks posed by reactions to the leaked Supreme Court majority opinion draft to strike down Roe v Wade. The U.S. Capitol Police generated an alert yesterday warning about far-right calls for violence against a religious group planning an upcoming protest in support of abortion rights. On Wednesday night, teams began installing an 8-foot-tall fence around parts of the Supreme Court building, and last night they also set up a concrete jersey barrier blocking the street in front of the building. There are concerns for the justices’ security as they could be the targets of violence. Also, social media posts against the justices and members of Congress are being monitored. The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Capitol Police have also added officers to the area outside of the court.
