FDA Advisors Say Plan for Updated Covid-19 Shots is Needed
During a meeting yesterday, the FDA’s Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee said they’re working on a new plan and timeline for Covid-19 shots. The committee detailed how emerging variants and the future use of Covid-19 booster shots would be approached and coordinated. Pfizer and Moderna are currently working to develop variant-specific vaccines but some future vaccines will be completely different formulations than what are currently administered. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said the company is also hoping to make a vaccine that will protect against the Omicron variant as well as other variants of the Coronavirus. While Moderna is also working on two-in-one combination vaccines that can offer protection against both the flu and the Coronavirus. Advisors plan to continue the conversation in the upcoming months.
