CHARLOTTE, NC — We have nine months until the Panthers play in London October 2019.
It’s the first overseas game in the team’s history.
Hundreds of fans started preparing for the trip as soon as the team made the announcement Monday.
The team will play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Wembley Stadium or Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Super fans gathered at Big Ben bar in South End to celebrate Monday.
“Oh my gosh I’m going to start saving now!” said Curtis Phipps.
Fan club Roaring Riot has travel packages for those ready to fly.
“We coordinate all the fans that are in the area plus all the local fans so you are getting that real authentic Panthers fan experience in the heart of London,” said Zack Luttrell.
Luttrell says at least 400 fans secured spots to go to London Monday.
“I’m definitely going. I already have my flyer points ready. I’m ready to go,” said Trish Ellington.
WCCB Charlotte’s Courtney Francisco has your back when it comes to British trash talk. She called a Brit in London, Oliver Harvey-Jones.
“They are a little more ruthless than they are in the US,” said Harvey-Jones.
He became a fan when he saw Cam Newton pull off that somersault touchdown back in 2015.
‘That was it. Ever since then,” said Harvey-Jones.
He says Brits love Cam’s no nonsense confidence and the cardiac cats’ ability to “pull a blinder” as the British say.
“Finally, to get the game we’re so excited,” said Harvey-Jones.” And it’s a divisional game as well which is even more exciting.”
The matchup is rare because only three other division games have happened in the International Series.
“It’s awesome! It’s awesome for the city. It’s awesome for the franchise and the fan base,” said George Negron.
The date of the game will be announced with the full NFL schedule in the Spring.
