At Least 9 Dead After Crash Involving University of Southwest’s Golf Team
At least nine people were killed in a crash between a pickup truck and a bus carrying members of the University of Southwest’s men’s and women’s golf team. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash happened around 8:15 pm last night outside the city of Andrews when a Dodge pickup drove into the northbound lane and struck a Ford transit passenger van carrying the team members head on. According to public safety officer Sargent Steven Blanco ‘both vehicle caught fire and burned.’ At least seven of those killed were on the University of the Southwest bus. A statement from the school said “two of the passengers are in critical condition undergoing medical treatment in Lubbock, Texas.” State officials and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
