Lawmakers in the House Pass Major Funding Bill That Includes $13.6 Billion in Aid for Ukraine
Yesterday the House of Representatives passed a bill to avoid a government shutdown. The $1.5 trillion spending bill that funds the government through September 30th includes $13.6 billion in aid for Ukraine. The defense portion of the legislation passed with a vote of 361 to 69 while the domestic portion passed with a vote of 260 to 171. The House voted on the bill after stalling for months ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. A $15 billion appropriation for pandemic relief was removed from the bill. In a letter to Democratic lawmakers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said ‘it is heartbreaking to remove the Covid funding, and we must continue to fight for urgently needed Vovid assistance, but unfortunately that will not be included in this bill.’
