Statewide Fire Alert Issued by SC Forestry Commission

The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a ‘red flag fire alert’. The alert went into effect this morning at 6
am and is being used to discourage people from burning outdoors. The agency said a ‘dramatic uptick’ in fires over the past 72 hours combined with the wind forecast prompted the alert. Horry County issued a ban on outdoor burning that has been in place since Thursday. Officials with the agency expect to lift the alert later in the week as weather conditions improve.
