MLB to Cancel Opening Day, Some Regular Season Games

Major League Baseball is postponing it’s opening day and canceling the first two series of regular season games. The announcement comes after team representatives and the Major League Baseball Players Association could not reach a deal on a collective bargaining agreement. Both sides negotiated for more than 16 hours on Monday which stretched into early yesterday morning with the two sides meeting later in the day yesterday. Commissioner Rob Manfred said “We worked hard to avoid an outcome that’s bad for our fans, bad for our players and bad for our clubs, I want to assure our fans that our failure to reach an agreement was not due to a lack of effort by either party.” Adding there is no possibility of an agreement until tomorrow at the earliest and training camps will not be able to operate until March 8th. The league said previously that players would need four weeks of Spring Training before the regular season could begin.
