Russian Troops Enter Kyiv as Some Ukrainians Seek Refuge

The war in the Ukraine continues…. Russia has intensified their assault in parts of Ukraine and have began sending a 40 mile long armed military convoy made up of armored vehicles, tanks, towed artillery and other vehicles to the capital of Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s forces faced resistance from Ukraine’s military after launching the invasion last week but officials here in the U.S. are now being warned about a ‘second wave’ of troops that could overcome the Ukrainian resistance. According to the UN, at least 102 civilians have been killed across the country and 304 people have been injured.

During a meeting on Capitol Hill yesterday, the Ukrainian ambassador to the U.S. requested more weapons and U.S. officials were told that Russia would likely lay siege to Kyiv which will lead to ‘ugly scenes of urban warfare’. Today, Kharkiv was rocked by a large explosion and at least 6 people were injured. Before that, five residential areas were hit by rockets. Russian troops have also made gains in the port city of Kherson. In evacuation efforts, there are already 520,000 refugees from Ukraine in neighboring countries and many women with children have made the choice to leave behind their husbands as men ages 18 to 60 are banned from leaving the country.
