The Biden Administration is Monitoring Protests Near U.S., Canadian Border

The Biden Administration is closely monitoring the protests at the U.S. and Canadian border. The protests over vaccine and mask mandates started in major cities in Canada and have moved to the borders in recent days and blocked road ways, threatened supply chains and caused other major disturbances. According to a White House official, “The Department of Homeland Security, the National Security Council, Department of Transportation and the National Economic Council are working together, including with their Canadian counterparts at all levels, to rapidly develop a set of options that match current industry demands. Those include alternative routes and other scenario planning.” President Biden is being ‘regularly briefed’ on the matter and yesterday Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke separately to their Canadian counterparts “urging them” to use federal powers to resolve this situation at our joint border and offering the full support of our Homeland Security and Transportation Departments.
