Experts Warn About New Omicron Variant ‘BA.2’

Experts are warning about a newly detected stealth variant of the Omicron. ‘BA.2’ was first detected in mid-November and is becoming the dominant cause of Covid-19 in some parts of the world like India, Denmark, the U.K. and South Africa. Unlike Omicron, BA.2 can show up differently or not at all on lab tests and can look like other Covid-19 variants in a first screening. Experts do stress though, that the variant will show up on both FDA approved lab based and at home tests. There is no indication that BA.2 causes more severe disease or spreads more easily than the original Omicron variant.
