President Biden Makes Speech on Voting Rights in Atlanta, Georgia
During a speech yesterday, President Biden expressed his frustration with Republicans who blocked voting rights legislation and called on the Senate to change the rules for filibusters. Throughout his first year of presidency, Biden devoted several speeches to voting rights including ones in Oklahoma, South Carolina, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. During his speech yesterday, the major focus was on changing the filibuster rules in the Senate which will require 60 votes to end the debate. Without changing the rules, its unclear how both the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will be passed.
